Suspected Drunk Driver Leaves One Dead

Police say that last week a suspected drunk driver was the cause of a San Diego accident that left one person dead. The man who died was in his Nissan Frontier when it was hit by a car driven by the suspected drunk driver. The collision sent the Nissan into a dump truck in a Caltrans construction zone on Interstate 805.

29-year-old John Thomas Kallis of San Diego was arrested at the scene and is awaiting arraignment on his charges.

It is tragic that another life has been lost to drunk driving, but Edward “Skip” Babbitt knows that this is one of many dangers that people face on the roadways in and around the metropolitan area. If you need a San Diego car accident lawyer, you can call us today.

The Numbers

We already know that California is the most populated state in the country. It also has plenty of vehicle accidents. For the latest reporting year in the state, there were 3,435 people killed and 254,561 people injured in vehicle accidents.

We know that many of those accidents occur right here in our area. The San Diego metropolitan area is a busy place with drivers from all over the state and country passing through.

Getting into an accident with injuries can be hard to deal with. Once the medical emergency is taken care of, the medical bills will start to pile up. For severe injuries, the bills can easily reach into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Will your insurance cover all of it?

What if you cannot make it to work because of your injuries? How will you support yourself and your family?

Driver Negligence

While we know that some accidents are unavoidable and are not the fault of any party, most of the time an accident can be attributed to driver error. When another person’s negligence caused you harm, you should not be on the line for the expenses.

  • Drivers who are impaired by drugs or alcohol are a danger to everyone in and around the roadways.

  • Distracted drivers, those who are too busy wondering when the other person will text back, are becoming more and more of a problem.

  • Those who speed are still the number one cause of accidents in California.
