Teenager’s Death Sparks Calls For 4-Way Stop

The Fatal Crash

A 13-year-old boy, Jorge Campos, was killed in a fiery crash last month when a vehicle driven by his mother failed to yield to traffic on Old Highway 395. Now, a 22-page investigative report has been completed by the California Highway Patrol.

The report says that Vasquez was sitting in the front passenger seat when his mother drove her vehicle across the highway and was struck by an oncoming truck. The mother and her 6-year-old daughter were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but Jorge died from his injuries.

The death is re-ignited calls for government officials to take measure to keep that intersection safe, including putting a 4-way stop where this crash happened. As of this writing, a petition has garnered hundreds of signatures.

The crash did prompt San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond to revisit the idea of installing a 4-way stop sign with the county’s Department of Public Works.
